    Hi.
Considering buying a secondhand Giant STP but am not sure if it is suitable for trail riding such as the Wicklow Way or canal banks.
Would it be considered more of a Jump or stunt bike.
Please excuse my terminology as I am new to MTB and am from a road background.

Yeah its more of a jump/stunt bike than anything else. Couldn't say for sure how it would suit on trails but Personally I would hold out for a proper mtb.

It's a DJ bike so would not be great for general riding due to the frame geometry..

Hmnn I have a Giant Brass 2 which is the step down from the STP. I use it as a commuter bike and find it extremely comfortable for day to day use.

Jump frames like the STP with slightly longer seat tubes can be surprisingly versatile. You could make it work for general riding, but unless you want to do some dirt jumping, the compromises aren't worth it. The tyres are too slick for any trail surface but dry hardpack and the geo won't allow you to climb properly.
