For 12pm-10pm we paid €1100. Getting an album, prints, all pics retouched and edited on CD and have full digital rights for that price. She was still getting established and I think her prices might have increased since. Also travelled for no extra charge.

to be honest its all relative

some professionals will charge 3K for the day, other photographers (not full-time wedding pro's but very capable of doing the job) - can charge €1K+ for the day.

do you know what you want photographed - just having a photographer for the day might not cover everything, some wedding photographers offer two shooters (to try to capture everything - from bride getting ready, groom getting ready etc to the first dance)

check out a photographer that I used to work with www.fusionphotography.ie - husband and wife team - talk to them and see if they can do you a deal - if needed tell keith you were talking to Paddy (photographer) ....you might get some money knocked off

Ps. some of the photographers in the photo section of Boards are wedding photographers.

Hey if you decide what time and when and where you want the photographer that is better as then they can give you an estimate. Also good if you have a bidget in mind then it makes it easier to know what you can afford. I'm always telling people about this site some of my friends used it Videography.ie, you just pop in your details of what you want and then they find a few photographers who will take the deal and you can pick one! Best of luck :)

If your looking for recommendations, smelltheglovefrom the photography forum on here is pretty good, believe she's very reasonable price wise too...

I'll be shooting a wedding on the 14th, and I felt my price was very reasonable (tried to keep it on the budget side of things as much as possible, so not making a lot from it, but it'll be a first wedding and although I'm more than capable, it'll benefit me to have some photos to show for future reference, if nothing else).

I came in at €650, from the church to the last dance (Bride didn't want the 'getting ready' shots). Price includes a CD, book and two framed prints. As I say I'm not making much off it, but I kinda know the family, and it's a start, so...

    ALWAYS do your homework when hiring a photographer. Beneficial things to look for would be (aside from images that you genuinely like, of course);

1 - Self employed (rather obvious).
2 - A .ie domain name (there are some loopholes for .ie's, anyone can register a .com).
3 - Somewhat known (a photographer that's known in their area is less likely to disappear).
4 - Insured (chances of things going wrong are slim, but never a bad thing, just incase).
5 - Willing to work to your budget (or re-work their package to help you out a bit).

That'd be off the top of my head. There are plenty of photographers on boards who would jump at you to get you to pick them, but for the love of God don't let the price alone sway you. Do some homework. If you can't help but think they're very cheap, there's probably a reason for it.

Vast majority of photographs by pros are retouched. Un-edited photos don't look as good. If the photographer is very cheap, there's a chance they're only charging you for a single day, and not planning to bother editing, which will definitely result in you being a little disappointed with the end result.

This is my first wedding coming up, and I've set aside three days after it for editing. Chances are I won't actually spend 3 days at it, but I certainly won't rush it, either. I know a few people that have gone with cheap photographers who charge to shoot the day and hand over a CD (I even once heard of the bride being given the CD of images the night of the wedding), and they were never overly pleased. Just something to consider.

We got 2 photographers from morning til about 10pm for 1500 (got some promotional discounts on top of that though). We're getting photos on disc with rights to reproduce. I think that's about average. There were some photographers charging 2500 or 3000, but they looked like they had a decent customer base with fashion shoot experience, etc...

i think the worst idea anyone can have is getting a photographer that will only hand over a CD at the end of it. what good is that. if a photographer costs what 1,000 for the day and you get a CD then what, How much are you going to spend on an album having the photos retouched cus all photos are retouched today, then printing costs in a decent size 8" by 10" is not cheap for over twenty prints or more then the album, a friend who is a photographer showed me a few albums the other day and the price is huge cus you have to buy the incerts and borders for that particular album for it to look half decent, best thing to do is get the photographer to do their job and you get an album all done for you professionally. Any photographer who can't do an album isn't good enough at his trade, its like asking a carpenter for a new kitchen but you have to install it yourself whats the point.

Most photographers edit for CD-only packages by default, I'd imagine. I think the only time your average professional won't retouch is when it's specifically asked that he won't.

I'd imagine in this situation most pros would walk away from the wedding rather than hand over unedited photographs. Most photographs only need minor editing, but it all makes a difference, in my opinion.

That said, I do agree that people should always get some printed product from their photographer. That's just my own personal opinion though, as I feel that a printed album/book/print etc. makes the overall viewing experience a much better and more personal one.

Digital images are great, but there's just something good about having a physical product that you can pick up and flick through (again, all in my own personal opinion).

Thanks for all the advice, we ended up going with someone local, who was recommended from a variety of sources, not too long at it so willing to be flexible! Very relaxed photog which was what I wanted, don't particularly like getting photos taken or very posed shots!
