Given that the Pro starts at 500GB, do Air owners think that 128GB is enough memory or do you find yourselves having to manage the available space?

Depends on a number of factors:

1 Is this your primary machine?

2 Do you like to download and store video

3 How big is your current media library?

4 Are you happy to use external storage?

    5 How important is portability?

    I've a Macbook Air with a 128GB SSD.

    I've a 25GB Linux partition.
Its the only laptop I use, I have everything I need on it and have 40GB free space.

I do have a 1TB Hard Drive which I can put files I don't regularly need on too.

Could I make do with the 128GB SSD? Yes, I only bought the hard drive to back up my laptop with.

It's definitely enough unless you want to replace a desktop. I've found 128gb to be more than enough for browsing and syncing pictures from my camera. (Although I need to do a weekly clean up of the few thousand .cr2's I don't need ;D)

I needed the 256gb for sure. I had it half filled before putting any files on it. I do need a lot of software.. Adobe CS, Parallels etc. I need office to be installed on both Windows and OSX on the air so that find of duplication takes up a lot of space. I do some video editing so need a good bit of space free.

As stated already it really depends on what you are planning to use it for and if you are happy to bring a 2.5" external around for your less accessed files.

Yes. It runs a lot better as well.

Just coming back to this, I'm also looking at running Windows in a partition as there are a couple of windows-only apps I need for work. My head says I should just get an ultrabook but I'd prefer a mac. Apart from the OS, the only heavy software I need is Office so hopefully I won't run out of space. I can keep my music, video etc on my MBP.

Like you I have looked into this more

I currently have used up 163GB on my Macbook

This would mean I would have to buy the 256GB Air

Did the costs on this between Air 13" / Macbook Pro 13"

    MacBook Pro

    13-inch: 2.4 GHz
    2.4GHz dual-core
    Intel Core i5
    4GB 1333MHz
    500GB 5400-rpm1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
    Built-in battery (7 hours)

    €1,219.00

    Air

    13-inch : 256GB
    1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
    processor
    4GB memory
    256GB flash storage1
    Intel HD Graphics 3000

    €1,605.00

For me and What I need to do , it a no brainer to go with the Macbook Pro, virtually same internals but a bigger HD and €386 less.

That model Air as a refurb can be got for €1,320 which muddies the waters a little maybe?

Beautiful screen and SSD. I couldn't buy a machine that uses a HDD now. I know they are expensive and have limited capacity but once you use one you'd find it hard to go back. Use cheap external HDDs for extra storage of lesser "importance" stuff and backup etc.

Screen's a lot better on the Air though. You've as much resolution as a 15" Macbook pro.

Yeah, I find my MBP very sluggish since getting an Air. I don't think people realise what a bottleneck HDDs are. The SSD in the Air makes a huge difference. If you care in anyway about performance it's more than worth the sacrifice in storage space. Of course, you can also install an SSD in a MBP, but if you use your notebook on the go then the Air is a much better, lighter and more compact option.

I guess I need to figure out what do I have that's using 163GB on space

So given what I need to do, Web, email, Office, Itunes and Photos...Macbook air is the recommendation from everyone

The only reason I would want the Pro was the HDD space, I'm just use to having all my files to hand. But I went with the air because:

I hate the screen on the PRO and it my main reason for not buying it. Likewise with the IMACs. I hate glass screens - too reflective, I don't want to look at myself working on a computer.

Its fast where it matters with the SSD.

Its lighter and easier to carry everywhere.
