who might be the best for this?
I went to Paul Doyle before but I don't know if he isn't more interested in just making guitars.
(I would want whoever it was to lower the action a bit and also to do something to a very small area along the join between the top and the side that has parted after a small knock)

The only people I've had any level of decent service from in Galway instrument-wise and therefore the only people I'd recommend are Modern Music on Middle Street. Their number is 091 563113. Having said that I've never gotten any acoustic guitar work done by them.

actually I got a email back from Paul Doyle to say he would look at it so I will probably bring it into him.

Paul Doyle (www.pauldoyleinstruments.com) did a great job for me, a setup was €35. He really knows his stuff, and really loves his work. One negative, my guitar was with him for 2 weeks for 1 hr of work. So, don't be in a hurry.

From experience I can say you generally don't want to be in a hurry when leaving your guitar for repairs. I've been to 3 different guys. In one case my guitar was gone for 2 months.

But... If you find someone who knows what he's doing, you'll want to keep him:
    - One tech didn't replace the frets as I asked him, because... well, I don't know. I guess he didn't feel like it that day.
    - The other tech, who was clearly very good, had amazing ideas, but he just forgot to follow through. :(
