Can anyone recommend a good consultant in Dublin to deal with migraine/headaches. Would love to hear people's feedback or recommendations.
I have been dealing with it for years and just accepted it as part of life but after a 3 day headache i need to start managing it

    Hi there,

I too have suffered from migraines in the past. I was getting them about once a week at their most frequent. Between getting the aura and the pain easing, they'd last about 6 hours.. (which i know is not bad in the grand scheme of things) but as i was having them weekly, it was starting to affect my work.

out of desperation I tried accupuncture (mainly to keep my mother happy as she was a big believer in it.. I thought it was hocus pocus). It worked.. pretty quickly too. In the beginning I went for about 3 sessions a week. After about 2 weeks they became twice a week.. within a month it was once a week.. now its every 2 months.. every now and again i think to myself I don't need it anymore and stop going.. and I get a migraine! so I now stick with it..

anyways i know it mightnt be for everybody but I've found it great.

    Best of luck

    Hi there,
I highly recommend Dr.Oliver Tobin in St.Vincents. I'm not sure if you want to go down the private route, I saw him through the clinic as an urgent case. I will be ringing up during the week for a review and will be interested to see if I can request to see him specifically or if it's luck of the draw when you go through the public clinic.
    Best of luck!

Thanks a million for that. Did you get referred through your gp or how did it work. Also, how long did you have to wait for an appointment.
I would love to hear how you get on

Yes and no. My GP sent a letter in late feb/early March and I was sent out an appointment for late June for the clinic. However in the interim my condition deteriorated an awful lot so we rang up to see if we could get the appointment speeded up and because one of my parents is treated in there for a serious neurological condition they ended up seeing me that day.

I rang up this morning to make my apolintment for a review and nothing was mentioned about what doctor you would like to see or how long it would take for an appointment so i'll just have to wait to get the appt in the post.

I am suffering terrible migraines lately and am missing days from work here and there. Been getting migraine for 30yrs but lately they are more frequent and more intense.
Most painkillers do not work nor does daily taking of inderal.
I am at a loss as to what to do.

Was wondering how others coped work wise.

I saw Mr. Doherty in St. James about two years ago after a particularly bad one (my only hemiplegic migraine to date).

He prescribed abortives which are good, if not always effective (and very expensive). I got my best results from my GP however, who told me to pay closer attention to management and prevention - identify triggers, slow down with aura onset etc. He also went through medication options such as prophylactic antidepressants and beta blockers which I declined.

I get about four or five per year now, and lifestyle/prevention has played a huge part in this.

    Hi All!

I also suffer from Migraine - it started two years ago after a car accident. Mine stem from stress and begin with aura and last for up to 6 weeks at a time. I feel horrific nausea and dizzy and often struggle for days at a time with headaches. I went to the migraine association of ireland in beaumont clinic last week. They were very helpful and also went through lifestyle etc. My case is chronic and has caused me to miss alot of work and so I was put on preventative medicine. I have only started this at the weekend and I believe it take a number of months to see the benefits so will wait and report back after that.

I did find that keeping stress levels low, keeping fit and active and removing triggers from my lifestyle helped alot. I am also planning to look at alternative measures to remove medication from my daily routine.

Hi does anyone have a recommendation for a specialist in hemiplegic migraines? I've had two now in 4 weeks, loss of sensation in my left side, slurred/ slow speech, headaches particularly behind my left eye, vomiting and nausea. I've been in hospital the first time to rule out a stroke. The recovery took weeks, the weakness being worse when I was tired. Just getting back to myself and I got hit with another one again this morning. I'm feeling very teary as it feels so debilitating. Any help? I'm in kildare.

I suffered too and have found homeopathy to be really helpful. Thats my experience.

I can really recommend you look at cranio sacral osteopathy. It helped me with migraines and other ailments (although my migraines are not the same as yours). I really hope you get relief.
