Non-ski/board related activites in Mayrhofen?

    Hi there,

Ironically, after booking my first snowboarding holiday to Mayrhofen in 5 years, I just found out I am pregnant! :)

Still planning to go to enjoy the break, but unfortunately have decided that the risks associated with falling repeatedly and potentially being knocked down are too much to take, so will have to stay off the slopes - don't get me wrong though, I'm gutted!!

Anyway, I'm sure there are plenty of other things to keep me occupied. Has anyone been there and could recommend some non-ski related activities?

I'm thinking swimming, hiking, snow-shoeing, tobogganing, gym etc. If anyone can recommend any places for the above, or tours or activities which might be worth doing it'd be much appreciated.

    Thanks :)

Some of the hotels in Mayrhofen have pools so if you are in one of them then you are sorted. Apart from that there is a public pool in the town. The hotel Elisabeth has a lovely spa that you could maybe spend a day in - dont know how much this is though.

Go and visit the tourist office when you are there and find out about all the things going on. Towns usually have guided snow shoe walks, hikes and other things happening.

Maybe spend a day in Innsbruck? Its not too far away and is a nice small town to have a wander in and a coffee and cake at the sacher cafe after browsing the massive Swarovski crystal shop!! If you are with a tour operator then they should have some day time excursions for you to Innsbruck and other places. If not then try Christophrus Risen on the main st for day time excursions or hop on the train.

There is also the Swarovski factory tour although I have never done this - its in Wattens not too far from Mayrhofen. There maybe even a trip to Salzburg with the tour op and this is a lovely place to visit.

You can also get a walkers pass and head up the mountain if the weather is good. Meet your skiers for lunch then spend the afternoon reading a book in the sunshine in a deck chair.

Plenty of things to keep you occupied and if nothing else a chance to have a nice relaxing week to yourself!

The Hotel Strass has a nice gym/pool/wellness centre. I was in Mayrhofen last year and one of my friends went there a few nights after skiing. He was able to pay to use it even though he wasn't a guest. It's on the main street beside the Penken Lift and the Ice Bar.

    Congratulations!

My friend's mum came along a few years ago and loved it even thought she didn't ski.

She took a horse sleigh ride with his dad one evening, she met their group at the top of the penken gondola for lunch most days - as its a gondola not a chair lift you can obviously go up without your skis/boards.She also availed of the spa facilities of hotel strass also as has been mentioned.

Not sure if I'd enjoy the Ice Bar sober though!!
