Couldnt imagine you'd be able to get one. heard of people getting a .22.250 for foxes only but never .243.

Its a great all round caliber but IMO its overkill for just a dedicated foxing round, a .223 or .204 will do everything as good to a fox as a .243 will.

I'm with clivej there. Tikka T3 lite or varmint in a .223
Best option for foxes I think. and cheaper to run.

Then the best answer is to ask your FO about the options of getting a 243 for foxing and that you will be "Looking into" going deer hunting at a later date.

He may surprize you and allow it. :)

Buy a 22-250 if you want a change beretta. Plenty of bang for your buck. The .204 hasnt really proven its worth, theres the funnyshooter that I know uses one but he only uses it for target shooting.:D

i changed my tikka .223 for a sako .243 only a couple of months ago. i have a deer license anyway so it was ok to have a .243. but when i spoke to the FO I told him i wanted it for fox shooting.
i further explained that the .243 was more versatile for my needs as i shoot deer as well and i could do both with .243.
i still have my .308 as well though.

it might be easier to get a deer hunters license anyway, for a start its free and you will have the option of deer stalking if you want. i think it would make it easier on your self to do it that way.

tikka great rifle + .243 great caliber = excellent combination ;)

    best of luck to you

I had a funny feeling we'd end up here when I started reading through this thread. This debate has been kicked to death on here :(....

    Please not again.

i wasnt getting into that debate. I simply asked him to elaborate a bit. As a .223 owner i think the 204 has a place along side the .223 or 22-250 for foxin. Just asked his opinion, same way as the op might have.
to answer op's question, yes it can and has been done. Depends on your station.

Long range shooting of lamp shy foxes, or shooting in very windy areas perhaps. I knew of someone a while back who told me he got a license on that basis but he was on the coast in the NW.

Couldnt agree more sure they are only a piece of sh!te:rolleyes:

Only downside of the 204 for me is ammo cost, its a great round

ah no need, as a .223 owner, lamping buddy owning a 22-250 and having seen .204's in action in the field il bow to your superior knowledge, after all, you do know of one shooter using one for target shooting.

How many foxes can you honestly say you've shot with your .223? Your questioning my experience after all I shot 35 foxes last year another lad I know shot twice that. I had a swift before the .223.;)

are you looking for a clap on the back? What does that have to do with anything? Read my posts again. This time slightly slower.

Requirements for any gun is good reason. Target shooting is good reason

well there the reason got it. the op asked about getting a .243 for foxing. the next cheapest way to be legally granted a license is for deer stalking. joining a range costs money. if that was not an issue for the op i,m sure we wouldnt be having this conversation ;)
