    Search Twitter for #OpIreland.

If you need to file any tax receipts get them in fast.... ;)

I'm not sympathetic to this group but the Irish Government is reaping what it sowed here trying to push through harsh legislation in a very unstable global climate.

This might be about to get interesting. If they really do intend to launch an attack against any state services/sites, then who knows what they might target.

Eircom would be in for a hammering anyway. DoJ too.

Anonymous are going to target the Irish government...Id say the TDs wont get a wink of sleep worrying about this...after all, arent Anonymous the guys that have been known to "shut down websites for about half an hour"! The country will surely implode if Anonymous launch one of their dastardly strikes that takes down dail.ie for half an hour.

Down for me, good to see the internet warriors rock in to help the cause. Was in a good mind to send them an email telling them about the shenanigans here. Someone else must have got there before me.

It should effect that at all. This is a DDOS attack, think of it being like stopping people ringing a phone number because you keep calling and keeping it busy.*

*I'm not experienced in this area but this is to the best of my knowledge what Anonymous tend to do in these attacks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,980 ✭✭✭meglome

justice and finance are down for me. Though i'm using someone else's Eircom connection so who knows.

Is it a denial of service act? Surely it would make more sense to force a redirect to an information page detailing what they want (sopa I'm taking it) rather than just annoying people who don't know what's going on..!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭Solair

Will this really make any difference?

I doubt many people visit most Government sites anyway other than the ones you have to pay stuff through like Revenue, MotorTax, NCT (kinda government) etc etc.

I don't think justice.ie has anything like essential services on it. It's just a general information site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 285 ✭✭gawker

If they really want to win people over, I'd suggest they take down householdcharge.ie pronto! I don't really think this type of tactic is going to help anything though to be honest.

It's the Irish government so it would go something like this...

For DDoS attacks they use numerous "bots"they have control over to strenuously and simultaneously try to access the domain they want to take down..could be using your or my computer for all we l know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,816 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Have they hacked Enda Kenny.com or is that site normally like that.

No it's usually programs of some kind doing all the work: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDOS#Distributed_attack

People use botnets for this, or in Anonymous' case people volunteer their systems for use in the attack.

Or perhaps not actually, the cached version from 5 days ago looks the same so I'm guessing someone bought endakenny.com a while ago and just put all the anti-Enda stuff up on it. Obviously Enda doesn't care :p
