    Hey all,

Does anyone know what're the general last call times for images to papers?
I've a nice gig all this week and have all the details, but the PR frim Im working with said they didn't know the times for any of them. if anyone has a ballpark time, it'd be great.

They won't be urgent shots, but they will probably be used. I know the rest of the stuff I need to know, re: editing, tagging, captions, titles, etc, but the times are the killer - I just want to plan out my days in advance!

I was told once that I should have images in by 8pm latest if possible but I have had stuff printed that was sent in well after 8 as well however this was from an Irish game so they would have been waiting on a match report also so maybe that is different? I think the best thing you could do is ring the picture desk and ask if they are interested in pics and what time is the deadline!

generally - for images ... 3/4pm is reasonable ....so the desks can choose if they want a filler.

breaking news images and events that they are waiting to receive images (ie sports events, concerts etc that they have marked in their diary and which they probably sent a reporter and know there is photographers present) .... 9ish !!

They sometimes hold a page for a picture, The indo would be the last to goto print ... 9.30ish - but it would have to be something really important for them to hold.

failing that - the herald will print the following morning.

I don't mean to be rude but if a PR firm wants you to send images to the papers should you not tell them you don't offer it as a service if you don't have any links in the papers ?

Is it not a bit misleading to do a PR shoot which is aimed for the National papers without the knowledge/ability of getting a hit.

I have told PR companies in the past that I will not send on site due to the speed/pressure it would put me under and the quality of the images would be rushed, I also wont do them unless they (the PR company) provide someone to take names for social pics, I generally don't do "social" shots because at best I could get them in the herald and none of the other social pages - I forward the PR companies on to other photographers who shoot "Social PR" - and charge substantial amounts of money for what they do, the PR companies respect me for my honesty and ability to find them someone who can do the job they require properly.
