Hey.

I'm on this course at the moment.

The way it works is, you pick whether you'd like to do a year abroad or do half lectures/half work placement in Ireland. The course director is working on making it possible to go to two universities for the year if you'd like.

I haven't got the full list to hand, so I don't know about California, but there is definitely a university in New York. You can also go to Australia, New Zealand, Seoul (South Korea), Brazil, Cairo, Paris (Sur Bonne), Berlin etc etc.

Theres about 40 partner institutes in all, ill throw up a full list of em when I get home.

no problem.

I found it because I'm currently in the course in second year, so I have access to the course website. It's up there.

It's based on your 1st year results, because you have to apply for it early in the second semester of second year, and obviously your second year results aren't available.

That said, you must pass all your exams in Year 2. Your place will be offered to you before the end of second year, but it's only on a provisional basis. It's not confirmed until the exam board passes you.

This years second years (i.e. me and my class mates) are applying for the Year abroad now. Personally, I'm not going to go on it, as I would rather do the work experience.

Any other questions you have about this or the course in general feel free to ask away, and I'll answer if I can.

Most likely different colleges have a different number of places

I could, but you wouldn't have a password/username combo to get in to it.

The above list is copied and pasted pretty much word for word. Only thing i deleted was a couple of codes that appear beside the Erasmus colleges on the list because they mean nothing to you unless you are in the process of filling out the application form.

Depends on the college, and how many students they plan to send to DIT next year. It's done on a swap basis, i.e. they take two of ours, we take two of theirs.

It's usually between 2 and 4

How well do you have to do to go away to America?
Like 70+ in all subjects, 80+? 90+?

Is it done by adding all your results and dividing by the number of subjects you did? (So done by an average mark)

Not in 365 but I suppose it depends really. Its afaik competitive so if there are 20 people that want to do the course in the USA and they go all out to get 80+ then you need to do better, but if no one wants the american schools then you could get in with a lower score.

If its based on average mark its weighted average so your score in each subject multiplied by the number of credits for that subject divided by 60.

Essentially yes.

You are basically competing against those other students who want to go away.

Say 50 students want to go away - they list 10 Host Universities in order of preference. They will be put in order of their average percentage mark.

They will then look at number 1. He/she will get his/her first preference. Then Number 2. They will see what his/her first preference is, and he/she will get it. It continues on like that.

Then say for example, they get to number 10, and his/her first preference is already full with students who got better results, well then they will be offered their second preference, provided there is space, if not, then on to third preference, and so on.

This continues until all students are catered for, in one of their chosen 10 colleges. If any student can't get a place on any of their 10 preferences, they will be declined a place abroad.

That said however, Eoghan would probably come back to them and say listen, all of your preferences were gone, but I cant put you in X college if you'd like.

Eoghan has also said though that in the 5/6 years the course has been running, everyone who wanted to go abroad, got to go abroad, and 99% of the time, it was in one of their top three preferences.

One important thing to note though. By doing DT365, you can become exempt from 8 of the professional accounting body exams, if you take the right modules and pass them by the required mark (I think it's 50%). 4 of these are done in third year, so you're missing out on half your exemptions if you go abroad.
