I hate gloating ... but... I went out shooting today and got a wee bunny at 375yds. My longest shot yet. I was fairly pleased with it I must say.

Thats the thing, they werent vmax but they were polymer tips. Remington 55gr. I was shocked at the exit wound. I thought it looked fierce clean! Either way they work...

    Nothing quite like the CRACK...........................thump!!:)

Please tell me if you shot him with the bipod or free handed?? If it was free handed you are like a superhero can do un-natural things

    Great shot by the way.

    Nice shot,well done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭session savage

Yeah its a lovely bit of ground alright. Im lucky out. 150yds behind me was a pond where I rose over 14 mallard as I walked past and I rose about 8 snipe just walking through the marsh field where I shot the rabbit.

I took the shot prone with the bipod. I'm definitely no superhero:o

The scope is a Hawke Nite Eye 4-16 x 50. Was a cheap scope but does the job until I get a few squid together.

    Great shooting!

Even more impressive with just 16 mag, I'd be wanting more mag at them distances!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,097 ✭✭✭charlie10

shot a rabbit the other night at 220 and a fox at 295 both ranged the following day with very same scope and gun and i find the scope a grand job too

ha ha I never even use it at 16 mag. I only use it at 10x because I use the mil dots to range. :)

Well thats the joys of having a nightforce! I use 32 because I have 32!:p

Rabbits are gone very scarce around these parts and none in areas suitable for long range shots! :(

You wont be disappointed lad. Its a really great scope for the money. Nice clear optics and reliable. Illuminated reticle is handy too. I have hawke scopes on both my rifles and a pair of hawke binos that are unreal for what I paid.... Saying that Ill be changing to a vortex viper as soon as I can afford it. Target turrets and FFP reticle mmmmmmmm!

Great shot session savage. Its even more impressive the fact you used a hawke night eye scope. I think the bottom of of a pint glass is clearer than them under the lamp.;)

Great report and nice shot placement! It's not easy to roll rabbits at that range with a .223  Very surprised at such a small exit wound from polymer tipped ammo. I've shot rabbits out around there with everything from 40gr vmax to 55gr vshok and the 53gr superformance and the expansion was unbelieveable!

You won't be sorry with a Vortex. I picked up the 6-24x50 Viper PST MRAD FFP last year and wouldn't be without it! Great glass for the money.. Some videos of mine in action here - http://www.youtube.com/user/The223Shooter/videos

    Again, great shooting!

I don't doubt it, but even at that range a ballistic tipped .223 round usually does fierce damage to a rabbit sized target.

not so. any long range rabbits i have ever shot looked pretty much like the op's.
