BMW E91 (318D) recommended oil change intervals

I'm looking at a BMW 318D from a bmw main dealer (with the 2 year unlimited mileage warranty). It's a mid 2007 model with 72,000 miles. I'm slightly surprised to see only 3 oil changes in its service history:

    18,000 miles
    45,000 miles
    60,000 miles

Dealer claims this is entirely normal and follows BMW recommendations. I am not fully convinced but can't seem to find a service manual online.

    Any experiences?

The cars' computer tells you when it needs an oil change. Condition based servicing
My yoke is telling me I need a service in 26,000 km

That is well possible oil changes are every two years or every 30k km's altough they can come sooner depending on what the car says

Be glad that it obviously has a full service history! Personally, the absolute most I'd leave a car go without an oil change is 20,000 km (12,000 miles) - oil degrades over time and it is the lifeblood of an engine - therefore you should have fresh enough oil in it at all times!

Good lad on here Bazz has a BMW 318d although his is a 2008 I think. He might come along later, and might be able to answer the question.:)

Nothing out of the ordinary there. Thats the OBC telling you when the car needs an oil change. its based on time, miles and how you drive the car. If everything else on the car checks out, i would ask the dealer to give it an oil change and to change the breather filter as a condition of the sale.

BMW recommend changing the breather filter ever third oil change so it should of been done at the 60k mark, but double check, if it has, ignore my last point, if it hasnt, ask the dealer to do it.

Assuming you know the E91 is the touring model yeah :)

I get the oil and filter changed on mine around every 15k km, would not take the chance on waiting for the CBS computer to tell me as I am not convinced about these long service intervals.

The breather filter needs to be changed on the M47 engine (122bhp) every second oil change. The newer N47 engine (143bhp) from September 2007 doesn't suffer from the same problem.
