If my laptop is in standby mode and I open the lid it powers up. Any ideas how I can stop this, I only want it to power up when I press the power button. I have set the 'when i close the lid.....' option in control panel to 'do nothing'.

If you set it to sleep when you close the lid then you'll need to 'power it up' from sleep mode when you reopen it. You could also set it to power off completely, but keeping the current state saved in RAM is handy for a quicker restart if you're not going to be away for too long.

Thanks, in my old laptop when I did Start -> Shutdown -> Standby opening the lid did nothing until i hit the power button, in the new laptop hen I open the lid it powers up, its a pain going through airport security as they lift the lid to check for whatever it is they check for and the laptop powers up, meaning i need to log in and goto standby again. I dont want to use hibernation or shutdown, any ideas?

Its probably better to shutdown when in the airport anyway. Iv heard of laptops waking from sleep mode in the bag and overheating.

    Have you tried Hibernating?

Don't like hibernating, too slow to resume, my previous Lenovo didn't have this issue, cant understand why this one does
