how do they make 5k of Knockma?
I usually make 2.4 miles carpark to carpark.
Note... no intention of (ever) doing the duathlon, just curious ;)
Mental note to self- don't bring dog to knockma for a walk on Sunday :)

Over in the triathlon section - deffo one in waiting Littlebug ;)

I think its 4 - 20 - 4 from what I remember last year on the Garmin, although you couldnt pick a harder 4k than that route

Pure nosiness Cw ;) esp since my nice new shiny bike hasn't been out of the shed for months :o I wouldn't rule out duathlon at some point as long as there were enough people doing it that I wouldn't be alone at the tail end:o

It says 5k in the link. 4k makes more sense. Knockma twice would probably kill me at this stage even without bike added in to the mix :p

How much as a matter of interest? Couldn't see price on the link?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

    Its €10: (from club email)

    29-01-12 Castlehackett, Belclare, Tuam, Co.Galway
    Registration @ 8.00am – 9.15am Caherlistrane GAA Pitch.
There will be no parking at Knock Ma, all parking at the GAA Pitch.

Entry 10Euro available on the day also online
through TI website. (ODL for non-TI members required, also available
    on the day)
This is one of the toughest Duathlons around – so
    remember to pace yourself!!

I'm gonna give it a bash, if all else fails its a bike TT and a hill session.

I can confirm that it's 4k. I'll get the info on the site updated.

For the run section is it just one loop of knockma?

    1. One loop of knockma
    2. cycle
    3. one loop of knockma..

I thought it was two loops of knockma.... I think some people might walk some of it... Very steep.

One loop per run section. Your 1 to 3 above is correct. Hopefully it will be run in both directions - go left on the first lap and right on the second OR vice versa.

I'd say more than a few will be walking - especially on the final run ;)

Thanks Pgibbo. I was getting worried there.. Thought for the posts above it was 2 loops per run section.... :-)

    FACT!

It was hell....definitely the toughest Duathlon i've done, heard it was hard, but wasn't expecting it to be that hard, doing the hill again after getting off the bike was awful.

Well done to all involved, really well organised, will be back for their Cong duathlon.

    ^ +1

Ow, ouch and ow again, repeat ad nauseum. Great race, tough but great, lovely route for the bike, the hill is a real tester. Sort of enjoyed hating it :).

Well done to Tri Lakes on a well organised event.

    Next one...

Hope to go back again & hopefully its the exact same course, compare my time to last years.

Remember the run in this, being particularly horrible though.

Yes folks it is back again this year and it will be the same course as last year, and yes it is tough,

There is a Cat 4 and Cat 5 climb on the run!

The route around the hill is as last year going up to the left hand side followed by the cycle followed by another lap of the hill going left again.

Just waiting for Tri Ireland to get entries open, not sure what the delay is. It will be 10 euro entry and if you have no tri Ire license you will have to buy one on the day for 5 euro (I think).

    See you there.
