JVC Everio - File storage...

    Hi all,

I have a JVC Everio camcorder here which is used to record sessions in a hospital for ongoing evaluation of the patients.

I need to be able to take the video files and put them on a disk which can then go into a patient's file. I can get the files onto the computer, but storage of those files is a problem.

Currently, the device is recording in high-def and a 3 hour session is coming out at about 30gigs+. This is obviously problematic when it comes to storage as that is far more than DVD size, and while I could get Blu-Ray gear I want to exhaust all other possibilities first.

What I would like to do is set it to standard-def recording and record about 30min to 1hour of footage in order to see how big the file comes out and see if the video quality is acceptable or not. HOWEVER, when I switch it over to SD it won't let me record, asking for a memory card.

I've been doing some Google scanning about the issue, and what I seem to be getting is that you can't record SD to the onboard harddrive...you need a memory card for SD recordings. Is that true, or am I misunderstanding?

If it is not true, how would I go about allocating harddrive space for SD recordings?

    So to summarize:
1 - Is it true that you need a memory card for recording in SD?
2 - If not, how would I go about doing so?

    Thanks in advance!
