hey guys im trying to remove a guys Truvativ Elita GXP chainset from his carbon bike but im having problems :( the only bolt on the chainset is on the non drive side so i have undone that and removed the ND crank, now comes removing the drive side crank and spindle, with gxp im pretty sure it just comes out no tools needed right? problem is this guys bike is carbon and the damn thing doesnt want to come out.

ive hit the ND spindle with reasonable force with a rubber hammer and it does move a little bit, however i feel like id really nead to hit it hard to get the thing out and i dont want to break his frame :( any ideas would be great

    hello

    you should check this out

also you should use a towel or something to absorb the impact and hit it with a hammer.

ie place the towel(double it up a few times) and hit it with a hammer a few times until it comes loose

    any more questions just ask

The silly man in that link has either removed or lost his extractor cap from his L/H crank! Edit, I now see he removed it!

@icysean you could do the same as in the link but obviously on the drive side! But tapping it with a rubber mallet should get it out.

i ended up removing the ND bb cup hammering the spindle a little more (still stuck), i then loosened the drive side cup and was able to pull the whole thing out, a part of the bb was actually seized onto the crank spindle (at least i think it was as i gave the thing a good beating after i removed it and still no joy), good thing your man wants a full overhaul as that bb is shagged now.

speaking of which i should be able to just put this into the frame for his new ultegra groupset no bother yeah? the only measurements they have are pretty much the same except for English/Italian

thanks for the offer man but seen as the guy is paying me to do all this i might as well just get an ultegra bb, are most bb shells the same width and diameter? dont want to buy a new bb only for it to not fit :o btw say that ultegra bb i linked earlier, is it the the whole bb or only the cups? please tell me its the whole damn thing :D
