I have a Ignis fridge/freezer and in the last couple of days I decided to check the temperatures in it. Leaving the little thermometer in overnight I got a reading of 12c in the fridge and -8c in the freezer which is a few degrees higher than they should be.

I have the stat control turned up to max so it looks like it my be the actual thermostat is horsed or perhaps the motor is wearing out.

Anyone encounter similar problems or any suggestions as to a "quick" solution?

    Thanks.

if the back of the unit is getting hot, then you need more air around it.
If its not getting hot, then thermostat or compressor at fault.
If your up to it, pull off the electrical covers to the stat, if its only two wires, then short them together for a few hours. check if the compressor is running almost continuously during this, and the back of the unit should be getting almost too hot to touch.

That's horrendous advice and not advised unless you are a professional, it's only a couple of weeks ago we were being asked to watch out for fire risks in specific fridge/freezer models and you're advising someone on the shortcut route to producing a fire...

My advice to you is to stay away from all things electrical when you have drink in you......that includes the computer......:p

Do fridges/ fridge freezers have a life span? I thought there was gas in them you have to replace. I know my parents one has been working for near on 20 years without a service lol.
