    Hi guys! :)

I am looking for a recommendation for a more off-the-beaten-track holiday in September for me and the OH. Let me explain a little further.

Ideally we'd like something hot and cheap like mallorca or one of these places. But we really really want to stay away from the package holiday route. We're looking for somewhere where we can get a bit more immersed in the local culture- a village somewhere or a small town where we could stay in a small b&b instead of one of these massive soulless hotels that have destroyed most holiday resorts. I have this idea in my head of an island like Sicily but one of the less touristy parts but I'd still like to be able to go to the beach and the sea. Is this impossible?? Have all the places in and around Europe with a coastline already been developed??

We've only started thinking about the summer lately so I haven't had much chance to research anything yet, I'm more looking for suggestions and ideas now that I can follow up on and develop. We're not looking for the traditional drinking holiday- more a cultural immersion and an exploration adventure.

It also has to be a place that we can get to fairly easily. I mean I don't mind flying somewhere and then having to take a bus or train for a few hours or a boat. I think it will have to be in Europe somewhere because our budget is between 1,000 and 1,200 between us for flights/transfers/accommodation.

So has anybody any ideas of places that they've been to or heard of?? Any time I've been abroad it was always to major tourist places like Mallorca and Paris so I have no idea how to even begin looking for a small little resort. An example of what I mean is tourists who come to Ireland and go to the beach will normally head to the bigger, more well known ones but it would be very rare to get tourists on some of the smaller beaches in Clare. Or something like this:

But without having to go as far as Thailand! :P

All and any help appreciated! :) Many thanks

    Mahama

la Gomera (one of the smaller canary islands) hotel jardin tecina....one of the nicest places i've been, the island is more like a hawaiin island than the other canary islands.

Yeah that seems pretty awesome, the place looks amazing, something like that is exactly what I'm looking for but it does seem to be slightly outside my budget. :/ Were you there on b&b basis or half board or what?

Also is it easy enough to get there, seems like flying to tenerife and then a ferry/flight to the island and then a bus on the other side?

    Cabo de Gata

A few hours from Malaga, or less than an hour from Almeria.
