I'm also intrested we're constantly stopped by randomers and other parents and told how pretty is is and how we must sign her to an agency. But don't know where to go.

Like you I was forever being stopped by random people, and friends and family were also always commenting on my sons good looks. I would be interested to here if anyone has found a decent agency in Ireland. I looked around for info but couldn't find much at the time. I signed him up with Assets at the time, as they were the only one I'd really heard of. They charged me €60 for his 'cover shot', which was the office woman taking his picture, took all of 20 seconds. I filled out a form and was told he was now on their books, and his pic would appear on their website for clients to see. Well that was over a year ago, and his pic is not up, and we've heard nothing back from them at all. I've called numerous times over the first 4-5 months, and was constantly told that their website was about to be updated.....still waiting. Proper <SNIP> if you ask me.

Our daughter models. We were approached unsolicited by two agencies separately. Both signed her & she's done work for both (they don't normally allow this as they're all competing for the same jobs), we cleared it with both as one specialises in TV work & the other in photography, so far, there's only been one conflict of interest.

She's been doing it since October & so far has booked three photo jobs & four TV jobs, (so I guess they know their onions).

Advice would be don't sign with someone who wants a management fee (neither of hers do). And, If the child isn't enjoying it, stop.

Pay is not great, €80 for a photo job + €30 expenses (chaperone etc) & €120 for a TV job with the same expenses. Having said that, we put it all in her account, it's a bit of fun for her, she enjoys it & she knows that she "earns" money & the value of it. She's allowed to spend a little every couple of weeks.

There's only been one job she didn't get that she went for, it was a very high paying, high profile one & the girl that did get it, is a double for her, I think it came down to the fact the other child was a little quieter at the casting.

You have to be available to bring your child, sometimes at only a day's notice to a casting or a job, you also have to be able to "let go" of control when she's on one as the art director/floor manager or photographer is in charge (personally, I'm never more than a couple of feet away from her when she's doing one, just "off camera").

You also have to be pretty thick skinned as at castings, they will talk about your child as if she, and you, are not there. My daughter is aware of this & it doesn't phase her, but I've seen some kids (& parents) come out of them a little teary eyed.

There's also a lot of "pushy showbiz mom" types around who are at all the castings & I think are living a little vicariously

I was with 1st Option in Dublin as a child. Always found them pleasent to deal with.

A couple of things to note in the modelling industry, whether for kids or adults:

    - A joining/training fee is not necessary. No legitimate successful agency charges fees like this.
    - You do not need professional photographs to approach an agency. Waste of money. Contact the agency or view their website for details on photo submissions. If you are signed, agencies often take just take headshots in the office against a neutral background.
    - Google! If you are unfamiliar with an agency, look them up. Horror/scam stories always get reported on forums like these.
