Pace for warm-up races

    Hi all,

Apologies in advance if this a) has been covered a million times before and/or b) is a fundamentally stupid question.

re: Warm-up races for your target event:

Is there any consensus on what pace/effort you should be running these at?

I plan on doing a few races (10 mile, 10k and half) before London and, while I don't want to run myself into the ground, I would be hoping to set PB's in all of them.

I don't really see the point of entering a race and basically jogging around at < 85% effort

It depends on your target event i.e what event are you running in London?

Sorry, should have specified...doing the London Marathon (the non-olympic version :D)

If London is your main target (time wise), then the problem of going full tilt in these is the impact on the following weeks training.

If you have a specific time that you are aiming for in the marathon, then you might be better off running these races at PMP. You could always increase the pace towards the end to simulate the effort of a marathon.

I guess it all depends on your aims and how these races fit into your current plan!
