Hi all, I have a question relating to taxation that someone may be able to help me with. My wife and I maried last year and are currently being assessed seperately. We both earn below the 20% taxation band and am totally confused as to if it is better to continue to be assessed seperately or jointly?

    Apreciate any advice!

There are two parts to the taxation system, the standard rate band and credits.

If you are both earning under the 32800 rate band then there is no point transferring any between you at the moment. However depending on how much you are earning, you may not be using all your credits and may be able to transfer the unused portion.
In my opinion its always best to be joint assessed as your situation may change in the future.
