I have posted already looking for a side by side shotgun. However I changed my mind as the club does alot of clay shooting, so I am trying to find a gun to cover both game and clay. My local gun dealer has three secondhand options all in mint condition. A Baikal sporter with ported barrles etc (€550), an akkar churchill (€550) and a laurona (€600). I am leaning towards the baikal. Anyone have any advice ?

Baikal shotguns are pure work horses of guns. A friend of mine has a baikal for about ten years, and he shoots clays and game with it.
I have no experience of the other makes of gun, so I can't comment on them, but since they're all in the same price range I'd say you should get the one that fits best. Get someone that knows a bit about shotguns to go with you to help you check the fit, maybe one of your club members might help you out

Thanks for that. The new Baikal seems to be a big improvement one the models of yesteryear. I will have another fit with that and see how it goes.

    Wind and Wave,
Have you model numbers for the Shotguns?

I would probably go with the Baikal, given the three choices.

I have an IZH-27, she gets the job done.

For the prices though, can you not do better? That kind of money seems a bit steep for these guns.

Keep looking, you can do better with that budget. Keep an eye on the for sale section and check a few RFD's their usually good sales men so don't let them talk ya into one of their guns straight away.
Best of luck with the search, dont worry you will pick up a nice bang bang for that cash.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Unfortunately there isnt much of a choice of gundealers in Clare . One is now closing down and the others have a very limited choice as they have said that the changing of the firearm renewal to every three years has really slowed down second hand business. In fairness the guns the firearm dealer I am talking to are in mint condition and he has a good reputation. I am meeting him again today and my choice is now down to between the baikail sporter with the ported barrels etc and the laurona. However I have heard the pins in the sporter baikals have been giving trouble. Anyone hear the same

To put an end to the thread I purchased a Laurona Gold Sporting. I took the advice of alot of people here and what I went for was the fit. Thanks to everyone for their advice. Now to find a dog.
