as part of my (increasingly expensive) build, i'm looking at saddles.

brooks are the only option i'm considering (i have a b17narrow and apart from some thigh chafing i think it's the business).

can get a swallow for 120 (cheapest i can find-bike24) or a swift for 90.

yep, crazy prices for a saddle but this build rationale goes something like this:

"ah sure in the grand scheme of things what's another 30 euro?"

(multiply by every decision on components yet and you can see my problem)

so is there any reason i should spend the extra 30 on a swallow? (this is the start of my cutting back expenses plan)

from what i can see the swift gets some fairly positive reviews as well

I'm with the lads, 30 extra on a swallow is a bit pricy, shop around, I'd guess coppers would be a good place to start..

Ah I see now........However, if one was going to be super pedantic they might have expected to find this in the 'My Mercian Build' thread. ;)

That said, while I'm a fan of both, I think the swallow looks to be something you'd find on a racing bike from the 20's whereas the swift has more of a timeless elegance (yes I just used the phrase timeless elegance to describe what ultimately amounts a glorified ass support)

I got a very nice deal on a B17 last summer from the lads at BikeHub in Howth.

What really bugs me about the Swift I have are the shorter rails on it. I can't set it back much, which means I end up sitting on the more uncomfortable metal end more often than not.

The Swift also took me ages to break in - far longer than a b17.

So, I'd consider the Swallow if you want longer rails

that would have made sense alright!

brain just wasn't working last night!

mods feel free to merge threads if you want.

have seen elsewhere that the swift has shorter rails, that might be the deciding factor

I'm building (slowly) at the moment and had opted for the Brooks Swift - Antique Brown over the swallow.

It suits the build better and I thinks looks marginally nicer.
