Each pub in Maynooth has its good points and bad points.

I like how cheap the Roost is, and the bands can be quite good. However it has severe crowding issues i.e. once it gets packed you'll spend approximately half of your night wading through people.

Mantra is a bit more expensive, but I haven't seen crowd congestion problems ever as bad in there, lots of seats and the smoking area is much more spacious and pleasant.

Mantra is cheaper during the week.

Really.. I've always found the Roost cheaper..

It's €2 a drink on Mondays which is as cheap as you'll find anywhere in the country never mind Maynooth. And on the other days you can buy 3 drinks for a tenner including entry and cloakroom. Whatever about people not liking Mantra cause of the music or crowd, you can't say it's more expensive.

Oh I like Mantra, but it is definitely more expensive.

They will charge in, either upstairs or downstairs or both, at least €5. And while they have the 4 vodka-redbulls for €20 deal, if they haven't mysteriously "run out" of fosters you'll be paying > €4.50 for a pint. And on the weekends it can be more than €5 for a pint.

I still go there, and in fact have to pay entry for some of my cheaper friends sometimes

the roost isnt the same as it used to be but still a good night out, especially on a thursday. The bands they get in can be good.

mantra is a bit more expensive for drink, but has a nicer smoking area, the people there can sometimes be a little hostile but if you have a group its a good night.

pretty much everywhere you go the music is the same sort of mix, theres not a lot to cater for anyone who doesnt just want to hear the latest top 50.

    Students tend not to.

The Roost has definitely changed for the worse, it gets far too packed now.

Haven't been to Brady's this year but Wednesday was always good craic in there and you had the option of upstairs for the club part or downstairs to sit for a chat and a pint without it being too loud or cramped.

The 2 euro drinks promotion in Mantra is false advertising.
Its basically only shots, bottles and fosters that are 2 euro. They price normally for any midweek student joint around the country, I wouldnt say its dirt cheap by any means.

All the places suffer from being too packed these days. Its really crappy, roost is a brilliant spot but the overcrowding really can ruin a night. The last thursday before Christmas and any other big night there is a complete disaster, I tend to avoid it now.

Think somewhere else needs to open to even out the crowds from roost and mantra. Maybe Bradys should open extra nights, its usually good.

I dunno what its like at weekends, sounds like its way worse, but during the week it seems there is far too much students and not enough places open.

The good old days of 2007/8 when they used to stamp you to get upstairs

It might sound like I'm advertising for the place now but that's balls. All the bottles apart from pint bottles are €2, as are all spirits and shots. It's only Heineken, Bud pints etc that are €4 (which is still cheaper than any other pub). What more do you want? It might be priced like any student joint around the country but there's nowhere else in Maynooth that does €2 drinks. I really don't understand how people (my friends do it all the time) argue about these prices then drag the group to the Roost(or wherever) and pay €4+ a drink there.

as far as a quiet pint goes, Caulfields used to be the place once upon a time, but now the place is O'Neills.
