    they seems to be lot of it going on from from reading some of the other threads,
    We shouldn't be trusted with a vote.
    etc. , comments like this realy piss me off.

    The country at the moment is f*cked up after the false expectations of the celtic tiger, but this country is going nowhere if people have such apathetic responses to the current crisis.

    “Where’s your f*****g pride?”.

    Did you vote them? I didn't. National pride doesn't make sense IMO but neither does national shame. I know the "we" stuff is applicable in a lot of cases when it comes to the Irish population in general, but "we" didn't all vote in FF. There's more than one Irish political party.

    In my opinion it's down to this.
    Cultural cringe, in cultural studies and social anthropology, is an internalized inferiority complex which causes people in a country to dismiss their own culture as inferior to the cultures of other countries. It is closely related, although not identical, to the concept of colonial mentality, and is often linked with the display of anti-intellectual attitudes towards thinkers, scientists and artists who originate from a colonial or post-colonial nation.

    The national self loathing is also often coined by the liberals or militant atheists on this forum who love to shove this bile down everyone's throats who get great personal satisfaction thinking they're acting all liberal and progressive.
