And what is your connection to the story, OP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,772 ✭✭✭jameshayes

don't see a problem with him getting let off... sick wife, loads of kids... stupid drunk filled night. Judge was right. The real story should be about those involved in the altercation.

how can someone be charged and then recieve a 12 month suspended sentence and not serve a single day in prison
    Because it's a suspended sentence?

My connection is that I know the person charged and can say for a fact they dont have a sick wife, nor are they looking after the brother in laws kids. It just seems like anyone can go in make up any old sob story to a judge without needing proof of it for a lenient sentence.

That's a pretty serious allegation. Are you sure you're not the landlord of the premises or someone else with a grudge against the accused?

    Did he ride your missus?

Nope im not the landlord nor have I anything against the accussed personally but its just annoys me to see people going in making up storys to judges and then being giving a lenient sentence due to it.

If anyone want to see how sick his wife is his adress is given in the report go and see for yourself how hes minding his in laws kids and how sick his wife is.

given the lad had 5 kids and was not directly involved in the incident - with CCTV footage to prove it - he would have been let off, the extra bits about wife etc were overkill

what the report in the paper doesnt say he was down on a stag do and the people involved in the altercation were part of his group

Why are you bringing this up now when the incident happened in Nov 2008 and the court in Nov 2010 ?

"Irish" law is pretty fcuked up alright (there's feckall Irish about it, its basically victorian english law). It needs a serious overhaul.

OP, you registered on boards to start a thread on this topic

Seems there is a personal motive behind this, and I'm surprised this thread has not been locked

It's pretty clear that you've a vested interest in this, big_bang. There are countless incidences of injustice in our legal system that one could quote to show its inefficiencies, such as people with tens of previous convictions in their past getting off lightly for very serious offenses including assault and/or "manslaughter".

In this case, some guy was out with friends presumably, they kicked off trouble and he stayed out of it and presumably tried to keep other people from getting involved. He now has a suspended sentence on his record for this and is liable for jail time if he is involved in trouble in the next 12 months. As someone else said, this story should be about the trouble makers, not this guy. In fact, it seems quite over the top that he got a conviction for it.

Personally, my record is spotless. If I had a bit of a drunken night and found myself in front of a judge charged with actually not doing something, I would tell all the sob stories in the world to ensure I didn't get a record. The effect of a criminal conviction on one's life can be devastating and I would do everything I could to ensure I didn't get one - as I do every day by abiding by the law.

Nope its not a personal motive I just know the fact behind this case which is why it annoys me, i,e was there not research doenon this by the gards. His made up sob story the fact its was a stage party he was with that caused the damage and left a man in hospital in with serious injurys.

I've seen folk sent home with a kick up the arse for bar brawls... 12 month suspended sounds about right.

Well, to be honest, the judge has more right to believe all the character references than we do to believe some new sign-up on an anonymous internet forum that is clearly chasing some personal vendetta.

I agree you have a vested interest or agenda posting about this case.
Forget about it and move on.
