Operating a UAV in Ireland

    Hey folks,

Does anyone have an information regarding the use of UAV's in Irish airspace? I know the CAA (UK) has a publication regarding their use, but I can't find anything in the IAA manual apart from this small section:

    http://www.iaa.ie/index.jsp?p=141&n=179

I am specifically interested in UAV's for commercial use, such as aerial filming and photography. I was planning on getting a small RC heli and attaching a HD video camera with a live feed, so if anybody has any information regarding this, I would be very grateful.

Has anybody heard of anyone trying this in Ireland?

I remember discussion here a while back about flying RC aircraft near sporting grounds etc and there didnt seem to be much actual legislation except for keeping a safe distance away from aerodromes and the public. Maybe get in touch with Tony on that link you posted just to be sure?

Several people have attached HD cameras to R/C helicopters or aeroplanes here in Ireland for one reason or another. There generally isn't a problem unless thing is large and heavy.

Best bet is to speak to someone in the IAA. The Defence Forces operate small Orbiter UAV's so there will be some form of legislation or guidance in regard to unmanned aircraft. May even be classed as a model aircraft...

Yeah I've contacted Tony Harkin, so I'll see what he has to say.

Does anyone here fly their own RC heli/airplane? I'm just curious as to what wind strengths they can operate in, and max speeds they can achieve.

Thanks for the answers so far.

Might be worth asking in the "Models" forum...
