    Hi folks,
Revenue told my partner that she can apply for Rent Allowance. They sent out a form for her to fill in but I am unclear about what date she puts down for the tax year she is claiming. She has been in rented accommodation since December 1st, and was unaware she could claim. She had to get assistance to pay her bills from family, but their circumstances changed and her wages have dropped due to tax. It was on this basis they told her to apply for the allowance.

Does she need to fill out a form for 2010, 2011 and 2012? Or how does it work?

    Thanks.

    It's rent relief
She can claim for the last four years, however note the below caveat.
The credit for the years 2011 onwards applies to individuals who were renting a property on 7 December 2010. No credit is due to individuals who began renting after 7 December 2010. http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/forms/rent1.pdf
