Well the time has come to get a small van...what are peoples thoughts on the berlingo/partner 2ltr hdi?

I was told the 1.6 hdi are a bit troublesome if they aren't serviced correctly and the 1.9 straight diesels are heavy on juice

it would be better in the long run. i have a 1.6 and its giving me nothing but trouble. i had 2 1.9 thought they were hard juice so i bought a 1.6 and i totaly regrate it. so i would go for a 2.0

I sold my Berlingo 1.6HDi last year... 4 years and 100K (miles) not one problem. Just oil, filters (every 10K) 2 sets of tyres, aircon regas and a set of pads and rotors. 55 to 60 mpg no problem.

The 1.6 is more powerful and lighter than the 2.0HDi.

i have a berlingo hdi had a 1.9 and it was a disaster. 2.0 hdi now 2002 model with 188,000 miles on clock and it is very economical getting 60mpg . had it chipped 3 years ago for 350 euro brought it from 90bhp to 126bhp getting more power and mpg :D !! really worth it. 2.0 hdi engines are capable of producing plenty power once chipped 1.6 hdi engines are economical too but fierce troublesome from what i hear.

If the injectors are giving trouble then it will be smokey/down on power etc
Get a leak off test to confirm.

Diesel injectors are only as good as the diesel that goes tru them.

    100% accurate.

I have a 00 Xantia HDi 90 with almost 200K miles on board. Pulls like a train. Never any trouble with the injectors. Make sure you use decent diesel and, just in case, use diesel injector cleaner additives in your tank whenever you get a dose of the smokes.
