Tick the Boxes???

Hi,
Using a Humax Freesat HDR and just wondering that when I set recorder to pre-record at a certain time. When I press the "schedule" button to check all is ok, the small box on the left beside the date, is un-ticked. What is the purpose of this box and, if I tick it, what does it do?

I think it's for selecting a number of scheduled recordings in one go to delete them en masse. Doesn't really have much of a function.

As evilivor says it is in fact for selecting the scheduled recordings to delete them
