2012 Stadium running track

Hi, I'm working with the University of Bristol and currently researching into multi-use Stadia with a particular focus on the 2012 Olympic stadium and its future use.

I am aiming to find the best engineering solution to the issue of the ongoing use of both football and athletics, as it would be a great shame to loose such a great resource for British athletics.

I would hugely appreciate your help in my efforts to secure the future of the athletics venue by filling out a very short 2-minute spectator survey (link bellow).

    Thanks

The Olympic Stadium will be too big for athletics once the Games are over. Ideally, football stadiums should not have tracks around them as it completely takes away from the atmosphere.
Once the Games are over, the track should be ripped up and the Stadium should be handed over to someone who will make good use of it ( probably a Premier League team ).

 What about the legacy promised by Seb? The stadium will be scaled down anyway after the Olympics.

The prima donna footballers can go take a hike - haven't they got enough stadia of their own? We can't keep treating athletics as a third-rate sport or that will become self-fulfilling.

Can't believe you're saying this on an athletics forum

Do you think they should have an 80,000 seater stadium for two or three track events per year? Who should pay for it?
The only option is to turn it into a football stadium - same as Manchester City. There's no shortage of athletic stadiums in London. No point in leaving them with a white elephant.

No, the first and promised option is to maintain it as an athletics stadium with a reduced capacity of 25 - 30,000. The only other major athletics stadium (afaik) is the Palace. There would be plenty of users in between big meetings and opportunities to hire out. I'm pretty sure they have a business plan.

Now, if some soccer baron wants to pay a handsome price for it then they'll have to lump the running track and maintain it.

Tottenham were willing to pay for a refurbishment of the Palace instead - not a bad option and it would keep the legacy promise in some form.

I hate it when the likes of Karren Brady, Daniel Levy etc think they can brush athletics aside as unworthy of consideration. Let them take a jump

London won the 2017 world's. The track is going nowhere. Spurs or the Hammers are more than welcome to keep it warm in the meantime.

I thought that this was settled already, no? West Ham were going to move in there. The top tier of the stadium was designed to be temporary and will be removed after the games so the capacity would be left at about 50,000. The track will be kept so London can host the 2017 worlds.

I think Tottenham are still disputing it, even though they don't want the stadium, because it would count as state aid towards West Ham. Leyton Orient are also disputing it due to the proximity to their ground.

Of course not! They do that in primary school.

Perhaps London GAA could move across from Ruislip??

LA Rams have been considering setting up shop in London recently but not sure where...This may be the answer. There's always plenty of squad members standing around on the side of the field so perhaps the track may suit this space requiremnet? (Granted I know the AF pitch is much narrower than a Football pitch..)

As far as I can tell, the deal to let West Ham take ownership has been scraped and the stadium will be kept in public ownership and rented out.

As for maintaining Crystal Palace, apparently it's a nightmare to get to transport wise and I think there's enough stadium's around for overpaid footballers. If they want to promote legacy olympic and athletic sports, tearing up the track at the Olympic stadium was/is a terrible idea IMHO.
