i got a fork track track frame during the week and have now fully stripped the frame of all the powder coating after at least 6 hours work..looks well but not sure what to do with it now.
stripped the rims of all paint too but they'll be repainted so no worries..just curious if anyone uses a bike that is bare aluminium?? do i need to clear coat it, or just polish it every so often?bike.jpg?t=1327322526
and obviously thats not the bike finished so don't judge, majority of the components are been replaced soon.
    thanks

i'd say clear coat, aluminium will oxidise if left bare. But you might get away with a good polish!

Aluminium doesn't "rot" like steel as the oxide coating protects from further corrosion.

So you don't need to do anything, except for cosmetics.

ye but im unsure how well a clear coat would stick to bare aluminium too..you can see on the back wheel i used a bit of brasso on it but not sure if that'd last.

i was just concerned because in places where either the paint on the wheels or powder coat had been chipped the aluminium had corroded, although the brasso removed it i taught i would of had problems with that if the whole bike was bare

FWIW niceonetom removed all the pain on his fixie over 3 years ago and it still looks fine.
I am not sure if he sprayed anything over it at the time.. I think he might have sprayed a clear coat over the alu, but I reckon it's all gone.
