Cut off (metal chop) Saw

Hi

First time posting in this section of boards. Hoping some of you guys can help me out and point me in the right direction!

I'm starting to do a bit of welding at home. Basic workshop.

I've a 9" grinder, but thinking of purchasing a cut off saw to get cuts squarer and to help with angles etc.

Is this the right machine for the job? What is a good make? I see the DeWalt are over €400, but I can get an hitachi for around €230.

Hitachi are good and have a good back up service in Dublin. Or at least they did when I worked for them in McQuillans. You could also look at a metal cutting bandsaw.

I got a Evolution rage2 dry cut saw recently. TCT blade not the abrasive cutting disc.

Op don't waste your time with a chop saw they are difficult to cut angles with along with the noise and sparks flying.

We bought one years ago for 50 pound and stuck a single phase motor on it. Its now replaced by a band saw and we still use it occasionally, but it cut an unreal amount of steel for us. Its the same as the one in the video but geared to run slower to make the blades last longer and with more safety guardsn and an emergency stop. Its a manchester rapidor.

Best thing about it is you van stack a few lengths of angle or box on top of each other and walk away and leave it to do its work.

If you keep an eye out you should get one for next to nothing I think they used to be used in engineering class in secondary schools.
