Ok so as a follow up to the closed thread,

I've received neodymium magnets this morning that can be put in place of the one in the hkc sensor (6mmx25)
It works fine and gives me the range I need, to extend the range even further its possible to put 2 of these magnets (opposing) into the sensor and that will work at about 50mm distance.

To opposing magnets will be stronger, trial & error will tell you how well it works. Remember there is no definitive line where the contact makes & breaks. In other words once a contact makes the magnet will have to move back further for it to break again.
