I put 1 litre of petrol into my 2ltr diesel avensis.... I know, I know, stupid me  Anyways, I put a half a tank of diesel in on top of it and drove it the 10 miles home at 3000 rpm hoping it'd burn through without damaging the seals. Will my car go to heaven? I turned the engine off and it started again no problem.

Why only a half a tank? Surely it was worth putting the extra few quid into minimize the effect?

that post sums up the boards perfectly, they say there aint no such thing as a stupid question, but they would be wrong.

What's wrong with what they said? Avensis tank 55 litres I think. With 1L of petrol in a half full tank, it's at 1:22.5

If they filled it, it would be 1:55.

No damage will be done. It's so diluted at this stage as to not make a blind bit of difference

+1 on this. Forget about it.
And it's not that stupid of a mistake really. Easelly done when you have hundreds of different things on your mind. Even worst if one of your cars is diesel and other one petrol. Little bit silly, maybe but not stupid.

Nope they said they put half a tank in on top of it, that doesn't mean there wasn't half a tank already there, if I've learned one thing from boards its not to assume anything until its explicitly stated.

And if I really wanted to be pedantic it was in the second sentence they said that:p

Yep that's a fair point but that means you might assume that the tank was half full with diesel, then the OP put 1 litre of petrol in it before switching back to diesel to fill it.. Unlikely I think.. I dunno though probably wrong to assume anything on this motors forum!:pac:
