Athlone have a limited deal of €375 and no joining fee.
Moate is €500 but they have some type of pavillion membership for €100
Mount Temple is €500 as well i think.
Glasson / Tullamore / Esker Hills are all over the €800 mark AFAIK and Tullamore still has a joining fee.

no - they have a country membership listed on the website as well, Ring Anna in the pro shop and she'll tell you. I might be in there for a game on friday and can find out either.

Not sure where you live but I've always liked Highfield. Nice set up and decent course. Great value too.

Just recently joined Tullamore golf club myself. Great parkland course, Esker could be an option..only up the road.

i heard tullamore were doing a special for the first 50 people that wanted to sign up that the signing fee of a couple of thousand was dropped and you would just have to pay the normal fee of 750

I think you could be right on that. I was fortunate enough that I was a Student member before and I didnt have to pay the entrance fee.

Tullamore is €720 and they are now doing a deal where no joining fee is to be paid. (not sure if 720 is including joining fee) I think it's something like first 35 new members. Great course and I would definitely recommend it.

€150 for pay and play membership to include your GUI at Blessington Lakes, it is the Kildare side of Co. Wicklow. Might be worth a google

Tullamore members voted yesterday to do away with Joining Fee for the first 35 new members. Students only have to pay half the normal sub up until they reach 28.

Whats the thinking behind that? Are things gone so downhill in this country that we assume anyone leaving college at moment wont be able to work for a long time after. Actually its probably true. What have we become :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 403 ✭✭Beaulieu

No -I think its more to do with fact that after college etc students are simply not spending money on golf subs but rather on other ahem "lifestyle" things;) good or bad. This is seen as a hook to perhaps keep them in the golf club.

Moate had a deal last year €275 for the year plus €5 each time you play. I've heard they aren't going to have that this year, it'll be somewhere around the €500 mark. I believe the timesheet on Sundays can be very busy.

Mount Temple is around the same price, but very easy to get out at weekends.

Glasson which Charlie mentioned was just under €1200 for Annual membership last year, there is a lower rate if you have a debenture in the club.

Esker Hills and Tullamore are 2 great courses and are on your doorstep. Personally, if I lived in Clara I'd go for Tullamore for the rates mentioned above.

Moate had the "contributary" membership for 2 years. It was scrapped cause lads were paying the €275 and not paying the €5 each time they played which i think was very bad form.

Blessington Lakes also running opens every Tuesday and Wednesday from about start of April until end of September, might suit you very well if you have to work weekends?

Tullamore got rid of their joining fee at an EGM yesterday.

Could hurt them more than it will help. When Athlone got rid of their joining fee 3-4 years ago we lost a lot of members instantly cause they could re-join without having to pay a fee. The Entrance fee could have been the one thing keeping so many members in the club.

didnt see this. Might not be too bad then.
