    Play.com Clearance Sale

Might have to trawl through a lot of junk - seem to be some bargains on kids backpacks

I had a look through it and there's very little to nothing that wasn't that price before.

It pisses me off when online retailers invent these fake "sales"

Your right - a lot of BS re clearance - however for others it might be worth a trawl. I got 2 x kids backpacks and 2 x kids tshirts for €16 so I'm happy enough.

Play have been in a state of perma-sale for about 2 years now with 95% of the stuff never actually changing price!

You can have to keep your eye on the site. Sometimes you come across a great bargain.

Do they have any standards for having sales on the internet, like they do in real shops? (not that sales in real shops aren't disingenuous/fake sometimes too)

I know they're not renowned as booksellers but I had a quick look at play.com for the book Before I Go To Sleep (currently in the Top 5 bestselling list.)

    www.play.com Euro 9.99 (paperback)
    www.bookdepository.co.uk Euro 4.62 (Hardback only E8.86)

Poor old Harvey Norman gets it from every angle, even when the thread isn't about them. ::D

Just as a slight antidote to the people giving out - I picked up an FCUK hoodie for €20 - pricing around looks like the RRP is about €60.

Prob is a genuine reduction, although it looks like something you could pick up in Penneys, Dunnes or market stall for €5.

    Sterling Price - £22.99
Exchange Rate Conversion of £22.99: €27.70
Euro Price on Play - €31.49
Me - Continuing to give Play.com the fingers through my monitor.

I'd say amazon are around the same tbh.

They are all looking to scam on exchange rates, not just play.

What are you on about? The only difference on Amazon is the VAT rate

Take for example The Lord Of The Rings on Bluray. Both cost the exact same when viewed in sterling on both sites but guess which one is actually cheaper when you buy it from Ireland? There is a fiver in the difference.

At least with Play you get the full price including delivery up front.

Spend over 25 pounds on Amazon and it's free delivery.

And at least Amazon allow you to pay in Sterling rather than force a ridiculous exchange rate on you just to cover their so-called "free delivery".

If you want to award such practices then go ahead but they'll never see another penny from me.

Don't know how many times I've trawled amazons website for something of use to put with my under £25 purchase just to get the free delivery and ending up with something that I really didn't need or that put the price of my order up to around £35-£45 which was way more than i had intended spending in the first place.Anyway I just wanted to point out that with Play.com you you know straight up what you have to pay out.I know they can be expensive but I have got many bargains from them over the last few years, mainly from posts on Bargain Alerts.
