Skoda Octavia not starting

Hi all, I have a 03 1.4l petrol octavia. Everything seemed to be running fine, due a service but otherwise no issues.

Tried to start this morning and wouldn't. Starter motor is ticking over fine, almost sounds like there's not petrol in it, but there's about half a tank full.

Going to dig out the Haynes manual tomorrow and see what I can come up with, but I'm wondering of anyone has experience with this (slightly vaguely described) issue or knows of a common fault with the octavia which might cause this?

    Cheers

A scan should throw up the problem. Any warning lights on the dash at all?

No warning lights on the dash.

Got a brief flash of the oil warning light when trying it just now and have added about 1.5 litres just to be safe.

Odb2 cable and software that I have shows no fault codes.
Checked fuses, in particular the fuel pump fuse, all are fine.

Is your fuel pump running can you hear it with the ignition on.it should run for a few seconds before u try to start it.ot could also be a crank shaft sensor.although I never done a crank sensor on one of them some one with abit more experience on the skoda brand might be able to answer that. So make sure ur getting a spark, make sure ur getting fuel to.does your obd scanner give live data readings if it does go to engine rpm and see when your turning it over is the engine rpm moving if not its a crank sensor

Was wondering about the fuel pump myself, can't hear it but not sure if it's normally audible anyway. There is a high pitched whine under the bonnet which I'm not sure is normal?

You would hear the fuel pump running lift the back seat at turn on the ignition.as soon as u turn on the ignition u should hear it run for two r three seconds

Will check that first thing tomorrow morning, my next step was to check the fuel pump relay and possibly lift the pump itself out and have a look. Fingers crossed.

No need to lift the pump unless you have power at the pump and the pump isn't running you won't see anything
