This looks pretty cool and I'm thinking of supporting it with your SSF money.

It falls slap bang inside the remit of SSF. Its not-for-profit. I dont know them but they seem earnest about it.

I could ear mark a few hundred if not a grand from the SSF fund for this.

    Thoughts?

I collect money from people here on AH. Sometimes I'm sure of what I want to do with it and I just "take an executive decision".

Some times I'm not so sure (like now, because unlike say, Barretstown/Temple St, these people arent famous for child care) and in those times I like to come back to the people who gave me the money and say "Check my head... this cool??"

A say in how your money is spent.... Its a shocking concept in Irish circles, I know. :)

+1 from me anyway. Something different.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Gets kids to use their imagination, and take their minds of being in the hospital!

Only good things can come from it. As said already, its definitely different!

I'm going to be in hospital around this time, they had better come to my ward.

Morphine plus performance art = good time.

More information on the people behind it.

Actually I was wondering about that hahah... I never want to personally benefit from SSF money (none of the people who help me do either)... so I might ask Barretstown or somewhere like that if they could use the "bonus" for their place. You have to be careful about these things though because some of the young wards may have been through a lot, they are very protective of them (and rightly so).
    (Barretstown are great btw).

I'm actually not sure about this.
This is where you come in! By funding the storytellers' high-tech costumes and the storytelling props, you will be helping to create a memorable experience for the children and the means by which they can get creative all by themselves.
How the money will be spent.

The money we raise on Fund-it will go directly to the production costs of the project: the technology to build a soundscape and lighting effects into the costumes which will assist in projecting the stories into the wards, a dressmaker and her materials, the making of storytelling props, including a storytelling cube which will enable the children to tell their own stories once the storytellers have left and the artists' fees for design work and rehearsing.

It sounds kinda interesting, but I've worked with people who run art and drama classes for kids in schools and in their own rented space, I make props and backdrops and help out with costumes etc voluntarily with the Red Moon Theatre group in wexford, when I can, and tbh they do it with very very little money, but the kids get real enjoyment out of it. There's no limit to what you can do with simple things like paper and cardboard and masking tape and plenty of paints etc, we've made some amazing looking stuff for big and small productions. This, (on the face of it anyway, I could be totaly wrong), sounds like a nice project for artists but while no doubt kids will enjoy it, 'high-tech costumes and lighting effects' and such sound a bit OTT. I worry when I see 'artists fees for design work' when we're talking about something intended to bring smiles to the faces of kids who are seriously ill. Something to think about at least.
There's lots of people who'd love to do the same kind of thing but without the need to raise serious cash for it imo.

Santa Strike Force, money is raised every year, boardsies donate, money goes to good causes.

I'd agree with Johro, it's a nice cause, but it sounds like some "artist" is going to receive most of the money.

There's more worthy causes out there that desperately need cash.

Yes, this is partly why I thought to stick it here. I dont like the idea of "paying" people for work but I'm happy to support "costs" for materials etc. Of course then the money that would pay for the materials gets shunted to pay for services etc.

I'm also aware that we live in the really real world and things (time included) cost. I'm in the unique position that (thanks to Boards) I can afford to give my time to SSF free of charge. I think of that as kinda karmic-payback for the efforts of the mods etc. I should do some good with the nice life Boards affords me. But not everyone is in that situation.

I dunno... I'll keep thinking about this. 500 notes isnt going to break the bank of SSF either but equally we dont have unlimited funds either.

These ladies do seem to have a lot of authentic qualifications behind them, its not a quick-buck making exercise. Its just a question of fitting with SSF.

Hmmmm.... Thanks for the head check so far... if anyone can suggest worthy sick-kid-quality-of-life-improvement charities or charitable projects, do let me know.

Well... Like I said I could be totally wrong about it, there's things in the brief that I really like and I'm sure the kids would enjoy, i.e. the leaving behind of the 'story-telling cube', and like you say, 500 notes won't break the bank. I'd say you'd know better than most of us whether the money would be well spent on these guys.
I just wondered about the artists fees and paying for the dressmaker and materials etc, but if the end product delivers and the kids get a kick out of it it's money well spent.

I think it sounds wonderful. Sure children can enjoy entertainment without all the bells and flashes but this is the 21st Century and today's kids are used to Wiis, DS 3Ds, iPods and all the tech stuff so this would be right up their alley. A way to lift them out of where they are and transport them some place different for a little while.

Can't really argue with that tbh.

Look at that, two pages and I've totally turned around. :D
Right now I'm thinking of joining 'the Storytellers New Gambit', the money looks good.
