What's a good all-in-one printer?

    Hello all,

The current Epson PX700W is on it's last legs: continually asks to be shut for for 6 hours, and when it does print, some of the lines are lighter than others.

So, a new all-in-one is needed. One that has a flatbed scanner and can print. Ethernet is mandatory. Have been looking at the 8500A Pro and the 8500A Pro Plus, and seeing a lot of hate towards them (not working, crashing, etc).

What all-in-one printers released in the last while are any good? Preferably one that has low ink prices (low official ink prices, not low unofficial ink prices).

I'd have to reccomend a Canon. I have an MP550, and it's great. Genuine ink is cheap enough, (you can get a set of generic cartriges delivered for about €15 which has been excellent tbh, despite initial reservations).

Had a few printerd before and it's been the best, with no problems at all.

I'm just after noticing that it has to have ethernet, which I didn't see at first, but I'd still reccomend a Canon based on my experience.

I'm pretty sure the generic cartridges were the cause of the downfall for the current printer. It worked out that a lot of money was saved, but in the end it caused us to have to buy a new printer.

And yes, it has to have ethernet so that it can be plugged into a router, and not have to depend on the nearest PC being on. The Canon MP560 has the same problem, but the Canon Pixma MX870 has ethernet.

What is the Canon like for heavy use?

Brother AIOs are the ones to look for, bullet proof and cheap to run.

Cheap & cheerful usually equals high cartridge cost.

    Highly recommended (have same model):
What's the page-per-minute roughly, for black and white text? The tech spec doesn't say.

Elara.ie has it for €205 - did you get for lower or higher, and how long ago did you get it?

Roughly 10ppm. Got it 3 months ago on Amazon & think it was slightly more expensive than the link above, which works out at €180 with free delivery (3-5 working days).

I would take Amazon 'customer' reviews with a large dose of salt

Why? All sellers are Amazon certified & far more reputable than the likes of eBay.

When you see the amount of negative reviews, I dunno is it that biased.

Sorry I've only just remembered this now, so you've probably bought one already.

The Canon, in general is pretty good in terms of ink usage. Been printing a heap of college stuff lately(reports, all exam papers for the past 5 years, and loads more) and its still going strong on cheap ALDI(United Office) ink. I dont have exact figures though.
