Ok, so i got a new Avensis which have a new led like strip, daylight running lights. Lovely sporty looking and safe.
They only thing is the front position lights come on at the same time, this orangey yellowy and they look a bit rubbish together.

Can i change these to a clearer light?

Looks like they wussed out, in other countries the low beams only come on when it gets a but darker. In Ireland the DRLs are the halogens.

    Check out powerbulbs.co.UK

They should have a replacement sidelight bulb that is slightly whiter.

I was thinking this would be something a trip to Halfords would sort?

I just think it looks a bit shiit as is and it really actually is my only gripe with the car.

    edit:
    Is this what I need?
    Are these illegal or something??

You can get bulbs that are whiter, I know Philips do the Blue vision, I think they also have a whiter bulb. Search the web for the Philips range or Osram range.

That will give a blue glow, see if there is an LED replacement, I think they make them. Philips improved the range over the last year, I have only restarted selling them and haven't got to know the full range yet.

The thing is the low beams are running on reduced voltage in DRL mode

Is it dipped/low beam or side/parking I am after?
Sorry I'm not really in the know on this kind of thing.

Thanks for the help colm_mcm, are you saying I can't change these even if I got a bulb that fits?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Far as I know, even if you get a bulb that fits, it'll be the same story

Maybe there's a software upgrade, but I reckon they never fitted the Auto lights sensor on your model so that function isn't on the car.

These lights (as in the pic) come on as soon as I drive, even when my lights are turned off.
The car is fitted with drl (halogen) http://www.toyota.ie/models/specifications/default.aspx?model=03349c4f-4188-433d-9a36-3c2555601fd5 but the halogen light looks crap with the led strip above it.

    Is that your car?

You can change the small parking bulb for an LED, but the headlight still comes on all half power the time

That's the situation as I understand it.

    Yeah, thats mine.
    The headlight doesn't come on.

The UK T Spirit model has LED DRLs, but the Avensis launch over there isn't until next month.

if that's the sidelight bulb you can change that for an LED sidelight bulb. If it is a halogen you can get a Philips Diamond Vision which are white like xenons. I considered those myself but ended up getting osram nightbreaker plus, which are not as white but are quite powerfull.
