Hey guys, thinking of investing in a laptop primarily for video editing(mostly ps3,xbox stuff).Think of going with the Dell Xps 17,the main specs would be i7-2670QM processor 2.20 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.10 GHz,6gb(but with the potential to upgrade to 16GB) and 3gb graphics. If I add the theft protection thing it comes to €980

But if I go through the student and employee section of the website it comes to €908(I am a student so do I need to sign up to something for this offer?)

    Anyway what are people's opinions?

The same CPU and GPU as that dell but it also has,

An excellent sound system from Bang and Oulfson.

A very good MATTE screen, hardly any laptops have those these days.

    Massive HDD.

    Blue ray optical drive.

A decent battery life considering the specs.

It's smaller, only 15'', so it has all the specs of a desktop replacement without the weight.

It's 60 euro cheaper than that dell.

While the sound and screen improvements would be nice,I wouldn't need the HDD space as I'll be using an external drive and the blu ray drive isn't that important too me.The dell above would be 40 euro cheaper too if I took out the theft traking thing.
Also the asus can only go up to 8GB I think according to the specs

4GB is more than enough, 8GB is overkill, 16GB well lets not even go there. :P

What are the exact specs on the Dell?

Yes overkill! Trust me. I do a little encoding myself and it never gets close to 4GB even with other programs running at the same time.

So the way I see it the Asus advantages are, much better screen, more portable, better sound, and I would argue probably equal if not better build quality. (I have a cheapo Asus myself and the build on it is still excellent).

The dell on the other handy has no advantages over the Asus, unless you want a bigger screen, which is fair enough.

    Still up to you.
