You need to run the printers "Head Cleaning" process. This should solve the problem, it may take a few goes but give it a try

When it prints the "nozzle check patteren". It lookes a bit dodgie. then it asks "If sagments are missing from the pattern, clean the print head." How do I do this?

Run the Nozzle check process, look for the option under maintenance

According to this after it prints the Nozzle Check there should be a Clean button beside Finish.

Are you using compatable or original Epson ink? If the blotchyness is due to mis-alignment you can run the printers "head alignment utility"

Ya using the right ink. Mis-alignment done that too. Maybe its time for an upgrade? Have this printer for about a year only. :(

Bring ink back to shop as its not fit for purpose, if after 5 head cleans in a row, you still get that problem chances are either the ink or possibly printer are at fault. Actually those Durabrite Epsons are very prone to clogging, on originals and compatibles, its a design fault with them
