The Prestige

I thoroughly enjoyed this film and see it as one of Nolan's best. I didn't gather a full appreciation for it until I watched the film for the second time last night and noticed a lot of things that I didn't upon first viewing.

When I watched it for the first time I did notice some obvious indicators that something wasn't right such as when
Borden over-reacted to a simple henchman being buried alive and Fallon showing a very soft spot for Borden's daughter.

But then last night I noticed more subtle things such as
Borden enthusiasticly mentioning how it was a shame that Fallon wasn't there when Sarah told him he was pregnant, how Borden asked Fallon to try his best to treat Sarah better, and Borden apologising to Fallon for not doing more to save Sarah.

Fanastic film, and possibly my favourite Nolan film in spite of my Bat fanboism. ;)

Aye it's a fantastic film alright and you do notice a lot more upon second viewing. Modern classic imo

Hah, never knew this was a Nolan movie - always did like it but haven't seen it for years. Must check it out again.

One of my favorite modern movies; in my opinion, it's one of Nolan's best works to date and easily eclipses his more popular material.

Of course, like all classic 'twist' movies, it's one you want to rewatch to see if you can spot all the little tells & moments that might have given clues as to the truth. Of course, once you're told the truth, you realise the twist was telegraphed not just in the very first scene, but that the entire movie was itself a magic-trick - a 2-hour case of misdirection :)

The film plays out a little differently to the novel its based on, and is also worth checking out, although there are a few details changed to make both quite separate.

I love that, it basically tells you to believe nothing you see right from the very beginning, had a great trailer too, in that it makes the film out to be something it really isnt

I loved the film, I'm a huge fan of Bale to begin with so that helped. I must give it another watch because I haven't seen it in a while.

What was the other film that came out with Edward Norton at the same time? That was poor.

Its been a while since I've seen it, but can anyone remember what happens
Jackman's double?the drunk actor, does he just vanish?

    ^^The Illusionist.

I love The Prestige alright. Easily one of Nolan's best. Enjoyed it much more than Memento anyway.

The Illusionist, it was ok, the soundtrack is fantastic though, gotta love Phillip Glass:

I like the score for The Prestige as well, very moody, David Julyan does atmospheric, non intrusive scores well, same as The Descent:

He does kind of vanish; he & Bale's character conspire to publicly embarrass Jackman during one of his shows, acting as though he'd been upstaged by Bale by sabotaging the act. Before that public humiliation, Jackman had been realising the double was a liability and intended to sack him; I guess after that incident, they do & the plot moves on

Yeah thats what I remember, when
he's strung up by Bale on stage and has the advert for the other theatre stuck to him, I couldnt remember if there was a scene written when he leaves or if he sold out Jackman, was kind of odd that he just vanishes, during the climax I thought it was him in the water tank under the stage but theres more than one body so its not

Yeah Bale is brilliant in it, especially when you realise that
he's been playing two different characters all along.

Another moment I noticed upon second viewing:
Borden asking Fallon to take his daughter to the zoo (I think?), even though she made it clear that she wanted to go with her father. Plus, Borden actually told his daughter that he would take her before asking Fallon to take her.

I thought this film was criminally underrated. My favourite Nolan film after Inception and TDK.

I didn't think much of it. Don't recall why.

I'd consider it his best film. Hopefully after Batman he'll go back and make another smaller film like this.

I love the look of it, I know people criticise his visual style but it works perfectly in this. Its really one of those movies the more you watch it the better it gets, must pick it up on blu-ray

I agree. It's a great looking film, due in large part to the period setting and the costumes, but the cinematography is excellent as well.

It looks really well on blu ray, and is a great improvement in both visual and audio terms. It is close to demo material in terms of PQ.

Love this film. Amazing watching it a second time knowing the twist but even the third, fourth, etc time that you watch it you still end up seeing stuff you've not noticed before. After Memento it's my favourite Nolan film (I'm not a Batman fan).

I thought The Illusionist was very poor though.
