Looking at purchasing a car and I did a motorcheck history on it. Mileage results came back the following.

    Odometer Contradiction: Yes
    Reading you entered:76,000 Mls
    Previous Readings (Irl & UK):
    06/01/2012 75,000 Mls (120,701 Kms)Source: INMR
    02/01/2012 75,000 Mls (120,701 Kms)Source: INMR
    04/11/2011 75,000 Mls (120,701 Kms)Source: INMR
    31/03/2011 77,974 Mls (125,487 Kms)Source: INMR
    25/03/2011 70,000 Mls (112,654 Kms)Source: INMR

My question is in the space of 6 days in march mileage went up by 7974....how is this possible??

My guess is that someone entered 77974 by mistake, when the actual mileage was 70974.

It's been clocked - from Nov 2011 to Jan 2012 there are 3 entries all identical and all lower than Mar 2011

or in the 10 months from March 2011 to Jan 2012 it only went up by 5,000 miles.

You could acually devalue someone's car by entering the wrong value on a motor check type website

It has been in the garage since the start of November. How are the miles recorded?

Cartell said there was no mileage descrepencies

That's right. If a car has 40k miles and you run a check and mistakenly enter the mileage as 44k miles then that figure of 44k now becomes the recorded mileage. If someone else runs a check and enters the correct mileage then it'll come up as a discrepancy. This is why it's important to use common sense when interpreting results.

Motorcheck who posts here might be able to tell where that entry of 77k miles came from.
I be more interested in finding any history of mileage prior to 2011 specially if the car came from the uk.
