I'm getting into cycling and wondering if anyone can recommend where to buy good value gear, either in Dublin city centre or online. I need to buy a helmet, illuminous jacket, gel saddle and bike lock and removable bike lights.
Any advice appreciated. I havent cycled since the stabilisers cames off that many years ago, thanks.

    hi love the void
    welcome to boards
im a newbie to cycling too
you could try the cycling adverts here
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1205
but my advice is to go to your local bike shop
you will pay more, but the advice and help you receive will be invaluable
you may also get information on local cycle groups that go for regular spins too
    good luck

Helmets and jackets frequently come up on the adverts forum here, just keep an eye out every few days. Bike locks and lights don't vary hugely in price, Mcdonald's on Wexford street is a quite good shop for that stuff in my opinion. If by any chance you're a TCD student, the SU shop there will be selling discounted kryptonite locks for students shortly. Are you sure you need a gel saddle? There's a pretty good chance you'll get used to what you've got!

Keep an eye on Aldi and Lidl. I got some grand cheap stuff from them. Jackets, base layers etc. If you stay on here you;ll here when they are for sale and also what stuff to buy.

Thanks for the helpful replies. I would like to join a cycle group so good to know where I can find out about this, thanks Meercat. Unfortunately not a student anymore Darkglasses, but you're probably right about the gel saddle-I'll see how it goes :)

But whatever else you do, get a good heavy D-lock and learn how to lock your bike properly. None of the other locks will do as your primary lock...
