hi i have bearings gone on a 2003 206 on the rear drivers side. I am struggling to get it dismanteled, im having trouble getting one part off, Im not sure off the name of it but i found this video on youtube. it is at 3 minutes 35. where he puts the bolt in to remove it i have nothing, its just all steel. just hoping some one can give me some advice to get it off? im flying at everything else, just hit a wall when i got to this. and a new axle is not financially possible!!!

U shouldn't need a new axle doesn't sound like you no what your at.not being funny but the discription is bad seriously and there's a reason mechanics spend 4years learning honestly

a new axle is so much easier to fit than the bearings do. you could be lucky and pick up a second hand one for around the 200 mark

An I hearing u correctly seriously it's a wheel bearing that's gone.its not the axle bent in half.so u could go get a second hand axle yes and both wheel bearings could be gone then u have to change two.just get a mechanic to do it he will have it done in a hour

but its not the wheel bearing its the axle bearing. they give serious bother in the 206s. its not an hours job.

Guys, this is the DIY forum. Good on him for trying.

@OP, can you post a picture of what you see ?

I havn't done a 206, but have done a 405. The 405 has two torsion bars through the swinging arm, and just a metal cap on the end of the big bearing on the swinging arm (the bearing you are trying to replace). In the video, it looks like one of the torsion arms is running down the middle of the beam and therefore the middle of the big bearing. Would that explain the difference ?

If it is the 405-type setup, then you remove the end bolts on the torsion bars, mark the splines so that you can put them back the same way they came off, then push them out of the swingiing arm. When they are both off and the swinging arm is pivoting freely, you can hammer it off the end of the shaft.

    Hope this helps.

    Sean.

i have too hit a problem with this job. On youtube there is a cap on the rear axle bearing you remove this cap and then insert a 12 mm bolt to extract the bearing from the axle shaft. on my peugeot 206 x reg there is no cap, the bearing cover is on complete plate. So how do you extract the bearing???????
