Knauf 100, 150 and 200 rolls of the brown ecose-technolocy rolled insulation at Oliver Dougles & sons, Roscrea. I was suprised at the prices as they were incl vat and were 2 and 3 euro cheaper than the other place across the road. The 100mm is 17.50, 150mm 16.60 and 200mm 19.50 a roll. There is cheaper insulation out there but not the knauf stuff at this price.

Best to just go up North in Van and look for the best offer. Youll probably pass 10 different places that sell it on the way anyway.

Knauf is usually on some kind of special offer in b&q 3 for 2 or half price good bit cheaper than those prices, if you google you'll see that they slashed the prices january of february every year, prices here are never as good as the uk but still cheaper that the builders providers could buy it. So if you can I'd wait a coupld of weeks and check with b&q.

I am sorry but this type of post is infuriating. This is an Irish site, what is the point in rubbing our nose in the fact that we are charged inflated prices in the south of ireland where delivery is not feasable.

EH....infuriating,dont no about that.the site is for networking (I think)...iv a large van at my disposal so i could go to the uk if the price is right!

I never even thought of b&q. Was just down in roscrea and thought of it and the prices were decent so I went with them. Between the guy getting it from the UK for half (exchange and delivery if delivered) of what I got it for and then b&q offers. Ah well no point in cribing over it now Its bought and will be delivered next week.

It's not the usual Irish rip-off etc.
In the UK the energy companies are subsidising insulation via B&Q and others - think it has to do with carbon-credit trading/industry/govt initiative or something - so it's only applicable in the UK, and they say it only applies to private householders - you are only supposed to be able to buy enough to insulate a typical semi-d etc. They were selling stuff for £3 a roll (the BIG ones) at one stage!
There was something similar with respect to energy-saving bulbs - and some of them turned up in Tesco Ireland (GE brand) at a very low price with an e-on sticker or something- now you'll see the sticker overstickered (and the price gone up).
Wish SEI or whoever would start subsidising it here too.

The UK are doing a money off system for insulating homes so its available cheap. B&Q mention it on their site. Its only Mainland UK not in the North.

From B&Q site "FOR DIY USE ONLY - This product is subsidised under the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target. It is not for use in new buildings. Further subsidies cannot be claimed by professional installers on this product. THIS OFFER IS NOT AVAILABLE IN NORTHERN IRELAND as they do not participate in the CERT scheme."

That stuff covers a good area by the looks of it. The other stuff that costs 3.50 a roll the carbon zero from homebase you cant buy more than 100 m2 of that they say on the site. I got enough to do 206 m2 (150+150) so if you got caught and could only buy 100m2 at that price you be fairly pissed off.

Just as a fyi. 300mm is what you need, any less and you don't get anywhere near the savi.vs.

Keep you're knickers on there buddy.

So its an Irish site, but no one else in the history of the site posts about prices or bargains to be had up North or in the UK then????

    Eh,I dont think so.

Do you're homework and search in future, before complaining and bitching on and on.

Oh and try to have a nice day.

In the UK,the goverment and Energy companies and the UK Energy Regulator are basicly paying for peoples houses to be insulated with various insulation products and energy saving products. Its to get the British carbon emmisions figures down as much as possible.

In the case of the insulation and the huge discount offered, you needed to have a UK Mainland valid house address and a postcode to avail of the massive UK discount/subsidy.

You provided this address and post code to the cashier, who puts it into the cash till and you get a reciept with the full price of the insualtion, but then you get a 2nd reciept and a refund off the cost of the insulation.

It works out (after the cash refund/subsidy) at 3 pounds 50 pence per roll of Knauf insulation.:D

E-ON and Philips joined forces over in the UK to sell 8w,11w and 14w CFL bulbs for 30 pence (about 35 cents) at one stage.

Again,I bought alot of them, while over in the UK.

It wasnt GE,its was Philips CFLs,and the price went up to 1 euro each (Tesco Ireland "Special Offer" and about 88 pence),compared to 30 pence over in the UK.

With regards the SEAI,they are so fcuked up and useless that its unreal.Their actual grant amounts are pittyfull, and dont give a householder any propper incentive to become more energy effiecent.Typical of anything in Ireland these days.

They fcuked up my grant on me 3 times in a row,and took 12 weeks (supposed to be only 6 weeks),when it came to giving me my grant/money back off my solar system install. They then tried to blame the solar panel company for filling out the form wrong, when it was filled out perfectly right, from the very word go.

The SEAI are a useless bunch of over paid muppets.

They dont do very much in this country, when compared to other European Countries and their energy effiecency companies/departments

Anyway, thats the whole different story and thread, with regards the SEAI.

BnQ out in Airside,Swords were selling rolls of 200mm Rockwool insulation for 10 euro.

That was back in October/November last year though, and every builder and roofer in Dublin was out there buying up van loads of the stuff.

I posted a thread mentioning it before.

These rolls went back up to 20 euro at the end of December/very begining of January though.

I still think I done alright with my prices with regard to builder providers. There is b&q in Portlaoise and gings and telfords but didn't check them for prices as they have no site and ive no car. I know its only a phone call away but trying to talk to some of them places is unreal.
