Some of you may have seen on the news footage of a fire in New Ross. I was lucky enough for my kids and I to be no more than casual observers but it did remind me the respect we should have for firefighters in particular. As the following clip shows, the fire was in a tall building and there appears to have been no initial availability of an appliance suitable for the height - until the unit with the basket arrived.

To watch those people, male and female, working around & in over a burning building like that, while everyone else stood back and let them, was awe-inspiring. From what I gather, there are several more days of work for them on this one too.

You would think the likes of this, the gardai and paramedics should be the ones avoiding the chop, there the very people everyone relies on!(rant over)

Am hoping to join the Fire service if there ever is a recruitment drive again! Lets face it, the work they do, their heros!
