is my hard drive dead?

    Hi.

I have just removed the hard drive from my laptop (toshiba l300d) as it one day just stopped working and is no longer receiving any power - that is, when i turn the laptop on, the hard drive doesn't power up.

im receiving the message at bootup, something like, "pxe-07 no media connected , no bootable device".

so, my first thought was the hard drive is dead. But what i did was remove the hard drive from the laptop, and with a 'sata to usb' and power cable I have in my room, I connected it up to my other laptop to see if I could read it.

However, while hard drive powered up, a constant heavy clicking sound was being produced by it and I could not read the drive. My laptop done the 'doo-doo' sound when i connect the hard drive to the usb port on the laptop but it didnt recognise the drive or anything.

I'm wondering does that sound like it is most likely a dead hard drive?

I am considering disassembling the laptop to check the cables, but toshiba dont exactly make it easy to do and it turns out i've to take almost everything assunder just to see what i need to.

    cheers

    danjay
